KATHMANDU, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Lawmakers of the newly elected House of Representatives of Nepal took the oath of office and secrecy at a ceremony at the main administrative complex Singha Durbar on Thursday.

Senior Nepali Congress lawmaker Arjun Narsingh KC administered the oath to the lawmakers. KC himself was sworn in by Ram Chandra Poudel, the president of Nepal, on Wednesday.

A total of 63 lawmakers took the oath in their mother tongues instead of Nepali. Six political parties and one independent candidate secured seats in the lower house in the parliamentary elections held on March 5.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party emerged as the largest party, winning 182 seats in the 275-member parliament. The oath-taking ceremony marks the formal beginning of the new parliamentary term.
