2:08 p.m. --The Giants announced thathead coach Brian Dabollhas beenrelieved of his duties.Assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Mike Kafkawill serve as interim head coach.
"We spoke this morning about the direction of our franchise on the field, and we have decided that, at this time, it is in our best interest to make a change at the head coaching position,"president John Maraandchairman Steve Tischsaid in a joint statement.
"The past few seasons have been nothing short of disappointing, and we have not met our expectations for this franchise. We understand the frustrations of our fans, and we will work to deliver a significantly improved product.
"We appreciate Coach Daboll for his contributions to our organization. We wish the Daboll family all the best in the future."
Joe Schoenremains in his position as general manager and will lead the search for a new head coach.
"We feel like Joe has assembled a good young nucleus of talent, and we look forward to its development," said Mara. "Unfortunately, the results over the past three years have not been what any of us want. We take full responsibility for those results and look forward to the kind of success our fans expect."
"These are difficult decisions, and John and I do not take them lightly," said Tisch, "but we feel like this is the right thing to do at this time and will allow us to move forward."
Daboll was named the 2022 NFL Coach of the Year after leading the Giants to nine regular-season victories, clinching the team's first playoff berth in six years and its first postseason victory in 11 seasons. In four seasons, the Giants compiled a record of 20-40-1 under Daboll.
Mike Kafka joined the New York Giants as offensive coordinator in 2022 and added the title of assistant head coach in 2024. Before arriving in New York, Kafka spent five seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, serving as offensive quality control coach (2017), quarterbacks coach (20182019), and passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach (20202021). During his tenure in Kansas City, he was part of the coaching staff that won Super Bowl LIV.
Kafka began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Northwestern University. Prior to coaching, he enjoyed a six-year NFL playing career as a quarterback, spending time with several teams after being selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
At Northwestern, Kafka set multiple school records, including single-game marks for both passing yards and rushing yards by a quarterback. A native of Chicago and a graduate of St. Rita High School, Kafka earned his degree in communication studies from Northwestern.

3:44 p.m. --QB Jaxson Dartwas ruled out with a concussion during Sunday's24-20 loss to the Bearsat Soldier Field.QBRussell Wilsonmade his first appearance since Week 6 and replaced the rookie to start the fourth quarter, with the Giants leading 17-10 at the time. Before the concussion, Dart completed 19 of 29 passes for 242 yards. He also ran six times for 66 yards, scoring both of the Giants' touchdowns on the ground. Dart became the first quarterback in NFL history with a touchdown run in five consecutive games, breaking a tie with Cam Newton (2011). In relief, Wilson completed three of his seven pass attempts for 45 yards while being sacked twice. The Giants, who host the Packers this Sunday, also have veteranQB Jameis Winstonin the quarterback room.
